Eating Disorder Treatment
Eating disorders are complex medical conditions affecting both physical and psychological health. The consequences are often widespread and can negatively impact relationships, mood, self-esteem, and everyday life. The focus will be on healthy coping skills that will improve one's relationship with food and a collaborative approach with all health care providers. Eating disorder recovery typically involves several key components that work together to promote physical, mental, and emotional healing.
Reclaiming Your Wellness
-
Restoring a healthy relationship with food and promoting balanced eating habits. It involves working with a registered dietitian to create a meal plan that meets nutritional needs while addressing any specific dietary concerns related to the eating disorder. Referrals can be provided if you are not yet working with a registered dietician.
-
Addressing the psychological and emotional factors contributing to disordered eating behaviors. Individuals will explore and challenge distorted thoughts and beliefs about food, body image, and self-worth, while also developing coping skills and healthier behaviors.
-
Medical monitoring is essential, especially for individuals with severe or medically compromised eating disorders. It involves regular medical check-ups, monitoring of vital signs, nutritional status assessment, and coordination with healthcare providers to address any physical complications or health concerns related to the eating disorder.
-
Learning and practicing self-care strategies are essential for long-term recovery. This includes developing healthy coping mechanisms, stress management techniques, and self-soothing strategies to navigate challenging emotions without resorting to disordered eating behaviors. Additionally, relapse prevention planning helps individuals identify triggers, warning signs, and strategies to prevent relapse and maintain progress in recovery.
